PANJIM: Congress has alleged a whopping 80 percent corruption in the electrical fixtures of the new Mandovi Bridge ‘Atal Setu’ by the ViceChairman of Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation (GSIDC) Sidharth Kuncalienkar.

Stating that the actual purchase cost of the electrical fixtures for lighting the Atal Setu is less than Rs 7 crore, Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) president Girish Chodankar said that the new Mandovi Bridge has been the corruption bridge.

“The electrical fixtures including poles, street lightings and the facade lights have apparently cost Rs 45.71 crores. However, as per the our information and the documents which we have in our possession, it has been ascertained that the poles and its fittings have been procured from NERI by the front company for Rs 6,39,84,750 (6.39 crore). This shows that there is so much corruption which is going on”, he stated.

Girish said that the original contract of the bridge was awarded to L&T by Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation and under Clause 22, the electrical poles and fittings would be procured by Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation and supplied free of cost to L&T.

“However instead of procuring via a tender as done in other bridges, L&T was made to purchase the electrical poles and fittings of the pre-decided NERI make from another company and not from the manufactures directly. This amounts to violation of the contract”, he added

Congress has decided to complaint to the Lokayukta and since the construction of the bridge is funded by the Union Government, the GPCC will seek an enquiry from the Central Vigilance Department.
