Reserve Police constable abuses activist outside Porvorim PI’s cabin; Video goes viral; Admitted to IPHB; Three criminal offences have been registered against him earlier
PORVORIM: A video of a Reserve Police constable Amjad Karol who was allegedly drunk and abused an activist outside the cabin of the Porvorim PI on Thursday has gone viral on social media. The constable has earlier three criminal offences registered against him and he continues to embarrass the police department with his alcohol-related aggression.
Sources claim that the visuals were shot on Thursday morning when activist and President of NGO 'Life is Beautiful', Ashley Noronha was on his routine visit to Porvorim police station and realised that things were going out of hand as he was being verbally abused.
The video shows that the men in uniform questioning the NGO representative by loudly asking ‘Who are you? several times.’
The activist who has captured this visual said that the constable was apparently drunk and abusive in his tone.
When contacted, Porvorim PI Paresh Naik said the constable belonged to the Reserve Police of the North District and must have been drunk.
“A non-cognizable offence has been registered in the matter. Our staff has got him admitted at Institute of Psychiatry and Human Behaviour (IPHB), Bambolim. This is not the first time his behavior has been this way. In fact, he has a history of being admitted at Bambolim. He was staying at the barrack and hence was spotted at Porvorim police station,” the PI said.
Activist Ashley Noronha told Herald that he was surprised by the behavior of the constable.
“I had gone on a confidential visit to the office of the SP North. When coming down the steps, this constable dashed into me accidentally. So, I turned back and asked what happened as he seemed to be in a hurry. He started abusing me and asking who I was and followed me to the cabin of the PI. He was in uniform and drunk which is wrong. I shot a video and spoke to the PI to act in the matter. I have also made written complaint at Porvorim police station,” Noronha informed.
Meanwhile, Bicholim PI Sanjay Dalvi revealed that the constable was earlier suspended for eight years and also booked in two offences and has been acquitted by the court.
“He was booked for attempt to murder and also had a case of assault and molestation. However, he has been acquitted by the court in both the cases. He was suspended for a long period and had recently rejoined,” Dalvi said.
Sources reveal that in 2014, Karol dragged an elderly destitute, beat her mercilessly and stripped her naked in full public view. Six months later he attacked another senior citizen by trespassing into her property at Pilgao. He abused her and threatened her with dire consequences. This incident was followed by an assault on a man with a spade who sustained serious head injuries.
In 2015, he barged into the North District office at Porvorim demanding to know the status of the two ongoing disciplinary enquires against him.
