PANJIM: The BJP candidates from Goa on Tuesday launched their campaign for the May 7 Lok Sabha elections by seeking blessings of Goddess Mahalaxmi at Panjim.

Chief Minister Pramod, BJP State president Sadanand Shet Tanavade and other party functionaries accompanied both the candidates — Union Minister of State for Tourism Shripad Naik and Pallavi Dempo.

Speaking to reporters Sawant strongly refuted opposition claims that Shripad Naik did not take up any development works in the North Goa Parliamentary constituency. “I feel opposition cannot see projects and works Bhau (Naik) has undertaken and completed. Everyone knows Naik and the latter too know people across the State,” he said.

Sawant said that party’s South Goa Parliamentary constituency nominee Pallavi Dempo might not have public contact but workers will work for the victory of both the candidates in the elections.

The Chief Minister said that the Congress party is still in confusion to declare its candidates and added that they should not speak against the BJP. He expressed confidence that both the BJP candidates will win the election with a huge margin.

Sawant challenged Congress MP Rahul Gandhi for public debate on 10 years of BJP-led NDA against 10 years of Congress-led UPA government at the Centre. “I am ready to come to Delhi too for public debate,” he declared.

Naik is contesting the election for the sixth term while, Dempo will be contesting he debut Lok Sabha poll.

Naik will start his election campaign from Mayem Assembly segment while Dempo will kick-start her campaign from Vasco constituency on Wednesday.
