VASCO: PWD Minister Sudin Dhavalikar, on Wednesday, said that the much awaited completion of missing link from Verna IDC to Borim bridge junction via Loutolim, which is part of NH17 B project and was pending due to technical issues raised by the forest department, will now be completed in six months.

“The problem due to non completion of missing link connecting NH17 B to NH4 A from Verna IDC to Borim via Loutolim is immense. We are also aware that movement of heavy vehicles on Cortalim-Loutolim road has been leading to accidents. All this has been happening because of the pending works on missing link from Verna IDC to Borim bridge junction via Loutolim. Initially the work was held up because of Forest Department objection. However, since the issue has been resolved we now expect that in another six months time the work on missing link would be completed. Also if locals feel that these heavy vehicles should not be allowed then I am even ready to issue directions to divert heavy vehicles to Verna via Margao,” Dhavalikar said.

He said: “These water tanks were procured by the PWD department without any scheme under non plan works and without the concurrence of finance department.”

Now since a vigilance inquiry into the matter is going on we are unable to distribute these water tanks. Once the case is completed we will surely distribute the same to the needy people”.

Dhavalikar said the 1000-mm diameter new pipeline from Verna to Mormugao Constituency was pending due to political pressure as leaders were asking the PWD not to remove the encroachments. “JICA pipeline works connecting Verna to Mormugao Constituency were supposed to be completed last year but were held up due to pressure from local political leaders. Since the local leaders wanted to save certain houses built over the land acquired by the PWD the works were held up. However, now the major portion of the works has been completed and the bottle neck portion at Dabolim would now also be completed by next month. Instead of removing encroachments PWD has decided and started using trenchless technology,” the minister said.
