12 VPs in Salcete yet to decide on gram sabha

MARGAO: Although the Block Development Officers have convened gram sabha meetings in 29 village panchayats of Salcete, they will be held in only six villages while 12 villages are yet to decide when to hold the gram sabhas of which four are facing the Code of Conduct due to Zilla Panchayat elections in Navelim Constituency.

It may be recalled that the BDOs had convened the gram sabhas as with the exception of Ambelim village none of the others held a gram sabha in the month of January as mandated by the Goa Panchayati Raj Act.

The village panchayats of Navelim, Dramapur Sirlim, Telaulim and Sarzora have not fixed their gram sabha as they are under the Code of Conduct due to Zilla Panchayat elections in Navelim Constituency. In addition to this, Navelim is also having a bye-election in Ward No. 2 following the death of the panchayat member there.

The six villages where the gram sabhas will be held on February 28 are Davorlim Rumdamoll, Chandor Cavorim, Seraulim, Orlim, Cavelossim and Velim. The eight villages which are yet to fix the date for the gram sabha are Davorlim Dicarpale, Rachol, Raia, Loutolim, Nuvem, Camorlim, Sao Jose de Areal and Aquem Baixo.

At Guirdolim, Curtorim, Paroda, Betalbatim, Assolna and Chinchinim Deussua the gram sabhas will be held on March 7, while Carmona will hold it on March 14, where the budget will also be presented to the villagers.

Incidentally, the village panchayats of Macasana, Cana Benaulim and Colva are yet to receive the order from the BDOs convening the gram sabha on February 28.
