PANJIM: In a shocking development, a 14-year old girl from Vasco was amongst the four COVID-19 deaths reported on Saturday. With this, the COVID-19 death count stands at 33. Late night reports coming in claimed there were two more deaths on Saturday.

The teenager’s death comes as a shock as all previous deaths, barring one, were of patients with co-morbid conditions, and Saturday’s development must be considered as a wake -up call.

Other deaths reported were of an 80-year-old woman from Chorao, a 65-year-old woman from Vasco and a man, 80 years old from Virdi, Sankhali. All were admitted at the ESI COVID hospital, at Margao.

Recoveries continued to be on higher side as the State registered 182 persons recovered or cured. While the State now has 1606 active cases the recoveries have reached 3047. The State also now has 4686 confirmed cases.

Of 8543 samples tested on Saturday, 1537 were negative, 146 are positive and 6860 reports are awaited.

The death spike came on a day when vaccine trials began at Redkar hospital in Pernem.

Goa Medical College is yet to begin plasma therapy for covid patients. As per Health Secretary 25 cured persons have donated their plasma.
