PANJIM: In a record for the State of Goa in over two decades, 15 students from Mushtifund Aryaan Higher Secondary School (MAHSS) were ranked in the first 10,000 at the Joint Entrance Exam (JEE) Advanced Ranking, data of which was released on Sunday by the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur.
Given that lakhs of students from across India apply and appear for these exams that determine their chances in getting through the country’s top engineering colleges, this is a huge achievement for Goa.
What’s more, three students made it into the first 1,800 ranking. Harsh Mahendra Khandeparkar, secured the 1393rd rank, Agrajah Vardhan Bhobe, secured the 1457th rank and Sairaj Raghavendra Ghosarwadkar got the 1,800th rank.
The three are students of MAHSS Cujira, Bambolim.
Mushtifund Aryaan Director Vyankatesh Prabhudesai added that this is also the first time there were 17 selections from a single class too.
For perspective, between the years 2003 and 2005, there were three consecutive years where there were zero selections in Goa.
“For a small state like Goa to get 17 selections is a big achievement. Moreover, 8 of them are in the first 4,200 ranks. First 15 getting in the top 10,000 of the final round has never happened since the year 2000 and this places Goa prominently on the education map. This is also great for the aspirations of students who wish to appear for the toughest examination in the world,” said Prabhudesai, who addressed the media on Friday night.
Prabhudesai clarified that the record could be even earlier than the year 2000 but that he wasn’t aware of Goa’s position before that. Prabhudesai began the institution in 2004 and the first batch came out in 2006.
Speaking about what happens for future students, he explained that the first three have the best chances while the top eight students will have a better chance of getting their admissions done in the older IITs, considered being the most prestigious in the country.
He said the remaining 9 can get in the newer IITS or they may go for Birla Institute of Technology & Science (BITS) or National Institute of Technology (NIT) depending on their preferred branch choice.
The other top eight students from MAHSS were Swatit S Rau Valaulicar (3026th rank); Manali Manjarekar (3077th rank); Ratan Manohar Doddalingannavar (3901st rank); Joshua Dias Barreto (4142nd rank) and Rujula Balkrishna Kamat (4196th rank).
Akhil Naik (5245th rank); Tejas Tendulkar (5864th rank); Nilay Kamat (7033rd rank); Vishal Vijendra Tari (7178th rank); Abhinn Tari (7447th rank); Aditya Jagadish Bhat (7961st rank); and R Hariharan (9476th rank) are those MAHSS students who made it in the top 15 in the country’s 10,000 top rankings.
Finally, Amit D Kuvelkar (13375th rank) and Aadi Swapnil Nesarkar (17766th rank) are the 16th and 17th highest ranked students from MAHSS.
All these students had also secured high ranking in other tests and exams recently.
