15 minority MLAs is proof BJP is secular: CM

VASCO: The fact that 15 MLAs of BJP hail from the minority community is a proof that the party is secular, Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant said on Friday.

The chief minister made the claim at the inaugural function of the beautified Vadem Lake. On the occasion Sawant also laid foundation stone for the second phase of the Joggers Park at Chicalim. Panchayat Minister Mauvin Godinho, who celebrated his 60th birthday, also attended the function.

“The Goa BJP government is the most secular as it has 15 MLAs from the minority community,” Sawant said. 

Praising Mauvin as man of words, he said, the panchayat minister is known to complete his projects and developmental works. “Mauvin is the second senior most legislator in Goa legislative assembly after senior Congress leader Pratapsingh Rane,” Sawant added.

On the occasion, Mauvin urged gathering to support BJP government for bringing various developmental works as well as good governance. “BJP It is not the communal party. Therefore, the minority communities should put their faith in the party,” Mauvin said. 

The second phase of the joggers park will have various additional amenities like e-library for senior citizens, doubling of walking track, food court, Mahila Bhawan which will generate employment to the women, self help groups who all can do business, the work of the second phase is estimated around Rs 14 crore.

The function was attended by Deepak Pauskar, Milind Naik, Carlos Almeida, Churchill Alemao, Alina Saldanha, Joshua D’Souza, Babu Ajgaonkar, Babu Kavlekar, Clafasio Dias, Pravin Zantye, Francisco Silveira, Felip Neri Rodrigues, Wilfred D’Sa, Tony Fernandes, Prasad Gaonkar, Glen Ticlo, Dayanand Sopte, Subhash Shirodkar, Nilkanth Haldankar and Speaker Rajesh Patnekar.
