VASCO: Goan seafarers, numbering 154, who arrived in the State on Friday from Mumbai have been quarantined in four hotels in Vasco.
Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant on Friday said that the 154 Goan seafarers were brought to Goa by road directly after signing off from their ships at Mumbai port. “The Goa government is working continuously in coordination with Central departments to ensure that Goans stranded in different parts of the country and world reach home safely,” Sawant said.
Sources said that there are 18 seafarers in one hotel, 61 in another hotel, 50 in a third hotel and 25 in another, where they will remain for 14 days in quarantine.
The seafarers went through a thorough screening and sanitisation process before they were allowed to enter the hotels.
J M Bakshi general manager Captain Sushil Mathur said they have got 68 seafarers from the cruise ship Seven Seas Voyager, which had docked in Mumbai on the May 14. “All 68 Goan seafarers have tested negative for COVID-19. After that they boarded a sanitised bus and were brought to Goa without any stops. They will be placed in 14 days quarantine in hotels in Vasco wherein health workers will attend to them.”
He added, “Police brought the seafarers in a convoy so there is no issue or delay. These seafarers will stay in these hotels for 14 days and on or before the tenth day the government will again test them for COVID-19 and if it is negative they will be allowed to go home.”
