157 Assolna locals receive  second COVID vaccine dose

ASSOLNA: Another 157 Assolna villagers received the second dose of COVID vaccine at the Assolna Sub-Health Centre situated in the Government Primary School (GPS), near the police outpost, here, recently.

This was the third vaccination drive conducted in the village by the Assolna Panchayat in collaboration with the Margao Hospicio Hospital and Chinchinim Primary Health Centre (PHC). Earlier, two such vaccination drives were held earlier, wherein approximately 154 and 287 Assolna villagers above the age of 45 received their vaccines, informed Sarpanch Xavier Almeida.

Xavier expressed his gratitude to the medical team from the Margao Hospicio Hospital and Chinchinim PHC, besides the Assolna Village Development Committee (VDC) members comprising Nelson Fernandes, Nazareth Fernandes and Ida Rodrigues as well as the Assolna panchas for their assistance in these drives.

Xavier said, “After having received their first dose on March 30 under the expert supervision of Dr Ira Almeida, approximately 157 Assolna villagers received their second dose on May 11 by following all the COVID Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) such as wearing a mask and maintaining social distancing. The alarming rise in COVID-19 fatalities and positive cases in the State ensured a good turnout at this vaccination drive that commenced at 9 am.”
