MAPUSA: The Colvale health centre team on Saturday collected 185 samples from Colvale Central Jail.

So far 630 swab samples have been collected including the jail staff, undertrial and convicts.

It may be recalled that earlier 203 swab samples of close contacts were collected after a Vasco based jail guard attached to Colvale Central Jail tested positive for COVID. However, all 203 samples tested negative.

Dr Damodar Narvenkar, Health officer, Colvale Health Centre informed that the team has completed collecting swab samples at Colvale Central Jail. 185 samples were collected on Saturday and sent for testing.

Meanwhile, in a huge relief for Canca residents, 106 swab samples collected from Canca tested negative on Saturday. The swab samples of 106 persons were collected after a female employee of a Verna-based company and her mother-in-law tested positive for COVID.

A person employed as a security guard tested positive for COVID at Xelpem, Mapusa.

Health Officer of Candolim Health Centre Dr Roshan Nazareth said, “The infected person is working as security guard for COVID Care Centre in Calangute. During routine testing of the staff, swab samples of the security guard were also collected and he tested positive. Since there was shortage of staff, this security guard, who was initially working at GMC, had joined duty at Calangute, three days ago”.
