265 cases on Sunday, CM appeals citizens to get vaccinated

PANJIM: With Goa registering 265 COVID-19 cases on Sunday, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant urged the eligible citizens to register on Co-WIN portal and get themselves vaccinated. Sawant’s appeal comes after Prime Minister Narendra Modi reviewed the COVID-19 situation and vaccination programme in the country on Sunday. “The government has opened vaccination for everyone who is 45 years and above irrespective of comorbidities. The cut-off date for the 45+ years category is those persons born before 1st January 1977,” Sawant tweeted. 

As many as 1219 persons were vaccinated in Goa on Sunday. Of these 1129 received their first dose and 90 received their second dose. Although all health centres across the State are open on Sundays and public holidays, people’s response to vaccination was lukewarm. 

The Goa Medical College (GMC) stated that they vaccinated 44 persons despite being a Sunday but some people made the photographs viral with posts that there were no people in the health centres.

In Goa, till date 1,35,2037 persons have received Covidshield vaccine shots. Of these 1,13,196 persons received their first dose and 21,841 received their second dose. 

Meanwhile, it is informed that a special campaign for COVID appropriate behaviour with emphasis on 100% face mask usage, personal hygiene and sanitation at public places, workplaces and health facilities will be organised in the State from April 6 to 14 in a bid to prevent the spread of coronavirus.
