PANJIM/VASCO: Amidst a significant rise in COVID-19 cases, Goa reported three more deaths on Saturday, taking the tally of deaths due to the infection to 12, of which seven are from various areas of Vasco.
Incidentally, the three deaths are that of an 80-year-old, 75-year-old and 31-year-old from Vasco, which has turned out to be an epicenter of the pandemic. The 31-year-old is the youngest death so far, whereas the 91-year-old COVID-19 suspect from Sada-Vasco suffered from fever and breathing problem.
Health Minister Vishwajit Rane said that the death reported on Saturday morning was due to “underlying health issues”. “The person who died today (Saturday) had other complications… which were underlying health issues,” he said while speaking to a local news channel.
The three fatalities form Vasco brought more reasons for concern to the people in the port town.
As per information available, the lady from Sada area developed fever like symptoms a few days ago. Later she along with her five family members with similar symptoms were taken to the hospital from which two members were admitted in the COVID hospital and three at the COVID care center. On Saturday she reportedly died due to CoVID-19 infection.
Another person from Mangor-Vasco who was admitted in the COVID hospital died early Saturday morning, as did the youth from Baina who had co-morbid conditions.
As per information available, the youth had a liver ailment and was admitted a few days ago in Chicalim hospital. He was later discharged and few days later again when he developed fever he was admitted to GMC where he was tested positive for COVID and then was sent to the COVID hospital Margao.
A special review meeting was called in the port town, where Vasco MLA Carlos Almeida, Mormugao Municipal Council Chairperson Nandadeep Raut, Police Inspector of Vasco Nilesh Rane and others were present.
Raut put forth his demand of readjustment of the micro-containment zone at Khariwado area as some part of it comes under his ward 15 where there are no COVID cases he said. Raut also said that the micro-containment zone should be maintained till ward 14, where there were around 12 COVID cases detected.
Raut also said, “The suggestion of the locals as well as of the Almeida seemed to have been considered by the district administration and from Monday onwards there will be mass COVID testing in Khariwado micro-containment zone area.”
Meanwhile, a security guard working in GMC and a resident of Mapusa has also tested positive. He was asymptomatic. While he has been shifted to the care center, his family has been shifted to a quarantine facility.
