MAPUSA: Three shops were gutted at Calangute, on Saturday.

According to Mapusa Fire station, at around 1 pm, the control room received a call informing about the fire. Immediately, Pilerne Fire Station was intimated and a team was dispatched at the spot. Upon reaching, it was learnt that the shops were already on blaze. Since the intensity of fire was high, Pilerne Fire Station also called Mapusa Fire Tender to douse the fire. 

Sources informed that three shops selling garments, bags and footwear were completely gutted while a bar and restaurant was partially damaged. 

The owners claimed loss of around Rs 40 lakh. 

It took almost one hour for both the fire teams to completely douse the fire. However, the exact cause of fire was not identified.

Mapusa Fire Station Incharge Bosco Ferrao informed Herald that he will be writing to the Electricity Department to ascertain the exact cause of fire and police station to investigate into the matter.

The owners claimed that the cause of fire cannot be short circuit, as due to lockdown the shops were closed and power supply was cut.
