PANJIM: After scrutiny, 323 candidates remain in the fray in six municipalities, while 106 candidates will fight it out in the Panaji City Corporation (CCP) elections, scheduled on March 20.

In addition, 66 nominations have been found valid to by-elections to 22 different wards of village panchayats, seven nominations for the Navelim zilla panchayat constituency and three for ward 9 of Sanquelim municipality. The by-elections are also slated on March 20. 

Withdrawal of candidatures will take place on Saturday. 

In all, 381 nominations were filed across six municipalities, of which 58 were declared null and void while one was rejected. Similarly, 14 nominations, received for the CCP polls, were declared invalid. 

Of the 323 nominations, Bicholim Municipality has the highest 76 candidates, followed by Cuncolim with 67 candidates, Curchorem has 59 candidates while Canacona has 42. There are 34 candidates in the fray in Valpoi and 45 in Pernem Municipal Council.

While the voting is scheduled on March 21, the counting of votes will take place on March 22.
