PANJIM: In the biggest single-day spike, Goa recorded 337 new cases of COVID-19 and five deaths on Sunday taking the total death tally to 53.

As per the media bulletin issued by the Directorate of Health Services (DHS), 337 fresh cases and 230 patients were declared cured on Sunday. As on date, the confirmed cases is 6530 and total active cases stood at 1809 with 4668 recoveries.

Government has attributed mass and community testing as a reason for the rise in the number of positive cases. As per Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Goa leads the chart of highest number of testing, per day, in the country.

On Sunday, 1565 samples were sent for testing.

The five deaths reported include that of three male and two female patients all with co-morbid conditions. Since June 22, when the first death was recorded, a total number of 53 people have died of the virus.

A total of four patients from Vasco succumbed to COVID infection on Sunday which includes a 72 year male from Sada, 53 year male from Zuarinagar, 72-year-old female from New Vaddem and another 45-year-old lady from Baina.

The fifth victim is a 54 year male from Durbhat, Ponda.

Further, there are 54 patients admitted in isolation wards.

While no international passenger has been placed under home quarantine for the day, two domestic passengers were placed under home quarantine and another 11 travellers in facility quarantine.
