4th phase to microchip stray dogs in Panjim

Team Herald

PANJIM: In order to track the movement and population of canines, around 500 dogs  will be microchipped in the fourth phase of the Purple Up initiative by Mission Rabies in the city.

The implantation of the microchip on the dogs will help the authorities keep an eye on the movement and population of the stray dogs in the city.

The initiative has been started in association with the Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) and Panjim Animal Welfare Society (PAWS).

Last year, close to 1,238 dogs were microchipped in the capital city of Panjim which has around 3000 stray dogs.

In the state, there are approximately 80,000 stray dogs and so far there have been three phases of microchipping.
