PANJIM: Goa’s COVID-19 death tally touched 80 on Monday after five more patients succumbed to the virus. The State also recorded 317 fresh cases and 213 recoveries for the day.

As on date, the State’s total confirmed cases stood at 9020, of which 2741 are active cases while 6208 patients were declared cured. On Sunday, the State had seen the highest single-day surge in cases with 506 people testing positive.

As per the health bulletin issued by Directorate of Health Services (DHS), on Monday, five deaths, all of persons with co-morbid conditions, were reported. 

The deceased include a 73-year-old man from Quepem, a 47-year-old man from Zuarinagar, both admitted at the ESI hospital, Margao. Another 49-year-old from Aquem, admitted in the COVID hospital, died on Sunday.

Two others include a 55-year-old man from Indiranagar and a 74-year-old woman from Marcel, admitted at Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMC).

Since June 22, when the State reported its first two COVID deaths, there have been 80 till date, of which over 50 per cent are from Mormugao taluka.

Further, of the 3078 samples tested for coronavirus, 317 were declared positive while 2031 are negative. The test results of 730 persons are awaited. 

Public health centres like Panjim, Mapusa and Valpoi have witnessed a rise in the number of COVID positive cases, all crossing 100. Moreover, there are 92 patients in hospital isolation.

Also, 23 travellers have been placed under facility quarantine, while seven interstate travellers are in home quarantine.
