PANJIM: As many as 50 passports of job seekers from Goa have been confiscated from the possession of two persons, who are in police custody in connection with running fake recruitment agencies in Panjim and Porvorim.

Andre Rodrigues of Porvorim and Vijay Tulsiani, living in Tonca-Caranzalem, were arrested by Crime Branch (CB) on Wednesday for the offence. The investigation team is now in search of their accomplice who has been identified as Clifton from Socorro, who is allegedly camping in Dubai.

CB had arrested the duo following a complaint by one Nilesh Wagh who alleged his Aadhar Card and photograph of another person was affixed on a document to establish the recruitment agency was operational. A preliminary inquiry had ascertained the allegations were true after which a trap was laid and the two men were arrested. The accused would allegedly charge Rs 1 lakh in cash from each job seeker.

SP Kartik Kashyap said CB has so far received around 46 complaints against the three men and more are expected. Several victims attended Rodrigues and Tulsiani’s bail hearing before the Judicial Magistrate First Class on Thursday, and sought a refund of their deposits. The victims also alleged that their passports were in possession of the two men. The JMFC will pronounce the order on the bail pleas on Friday.

It has come to light that Tulsiani allegedly ran another recruitment agency called Talent Hunt. Job seekers who invested their money in this agency also demanded a refund from the alleged accused. “The accused persons gave false promises of giving jobs in Canada, Russia and Gulf countries, but no applicant has so far been given a job,” the officer said.
