80-year-old died due to the disease on March 25; Health officials say to keep calm and there is no reason to panic

PANJIM: Goa has detected 60 cases of swine flu in the last three months leading to an alarming situation in the State.

Health Department officials claim that the change in weather conditions has resulted in the situation and have urged the people not to panic, but to take precautions.

Directorate of Health Services Official said that there has been one death confirmed due to swine flu, while rest of the patients are being treated.

An 80-year-old patient had died due to swine flu on March 25. This was the first death due to this disease this year. The department declined to share details of the patient.

An official said that since January this year, instances of swine flu have been on the rise after North India faced a severe cold. “In the last three months, 20,000 people tested positive for swine flu across the country, resulting in 700 deaths,” the official said.

Officials said that DHS has given clear guidelines on dos and don’ts when swine flu symptoms are noticed in patients. “Timely treatment can cure the patient of this disease. There is no need to panic,” he said.
