BICHOLIM: The Bicholim mamlatdar has deleted 64 names from the voters’ list from the Bicholim municipal area after they failed to produce their proper residential proof.

The drive was carried out based on the directions of the Election Commission of India for special summary revision of the voter’s list. The general public was given the time between September 1, 2018 and October 31, 2018 to file their claims and objections towards the voters’ list.

Several people from the Bicholim municipal area had submitted their objections that there were several non-Goan names registered in the voter’s list. After a through inquiry, the mamletdar’s office deleted 13 names from Part No-25 of the municipal area and 51 names from Part No-27.

Sources say that most of the names which were deleted were non-Goans who were staying in rented premises and had done bogus election cards taking the help of the local leaders.

“This was mostly the vote bank of the local leaders who were using them during election for their personal gains,” a local said.

“There were about 673 applications for inclusion of new names out of which 600 were accepted. 158 names were deleted from the list while correction was made in 357 names,” Bicholim Mamlatdar Pravinjai Pandit said.
