740 persons test COVID positive as State records highest single day spike

10 deaths reported in 24 hours; 511 recover

PANJIM: Goa recorded highest single day spike of COVID-19 cases with 740 testing positive for the virus on Saturday. Likewise, surge in deaths also continue with positive patients 10 losing their lives in last 24 hours. 

Among the 10 deceased, all of whom were undergoing treatment at Goa Medical College; five died within 24 hours of admission. Among those succumbing to the virus included 70-year-old from Madurai in Tamil Nadu, 51-year-old from Mandrem, 65-year-old from Sada in Vasco, 68-year-old from Curca-Bambolim, 63-year-old from Chicalim, 72-year-old from Borda, 28-year-old from Bastora, 82-year-old from Betim, 84-year-old from Porvorim and 42-year-old from Naroa-Tiswadi. 

With 740 recording highest-ever single day spike, the State also recorded 511 recoveries. A total of 24,185 are confirmed cases while 5,323 are active cases and 18,576 persons have recovered as on Saturday evening. The total death toll has also increased to 286. 

Health Minister Vishwajit Rane had just a day ago stated that Goa’s single day record might increase up to 1,000 cases due to community transmission.
