This year’s pass percentage is 10.47% less than last year's 95.46%; Goa Board chairman says the possible reasons for low results could be change in exam pattern in previous years

PANJIM: The Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (GBSHSE) declared the results of the Higher Secondary School Certificate (HSSC) examination with 84.99 per cent students clearing it.

However, the pass percentage this year is 10.47 per cent less than the last year's pass percentage which stood at 95.46 per cent.

Of the 17,511 students, who appeared for the examination, 14,884 students cleared the examination.

Girls outshone the boys in the examination as out of 9,235 girl students, 8,132 passed registering a pass percentage of 88.06 per cent while out of 8,276 boys, who appeared for the examination, 6,752 passed, marking a pass percentage of 81.59 per cent.

Commerce stream recorded maximum pass percentage at 90.78 per cent followed by Arts stream at 86.33 per cent, Science stream at 82.41 per cent and Vocational stream registered 76.45 per cent pass percentage.

This year’s higher secondary result is lowest in the past few years. 

Commenting on this, Goa Board Chairman Bhagirath Shetye said that the possible reasons for low results could be change in exam pattern in previous years.

 “Focusing is also an issue with students,” he added.

The HSSC examination was conducted by the Goa Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education, Alto Betim between February 28 and March 18, 2024, at 20 examination centres across the State.
