ACB bungles, says Madkaikar still holds portfolio

PANJIM: For the Anti Corruption Branch of Goa Police, Pandurang Madkaikar is still holding the cabinet portfolio. In a submission to the Lokayukta, former Superintendent of Police Priyanka Kashyap has not corrected the mistake despite Madkaikar being dropped from the cabinet in September 2018. Kashyap, who was recently relieved from Goa following a transfer to Mizoram, was serving as the ACB SP.

The statement was produced before Lokayukta P K Misra during the hearing into disproportionate assets case filed against the Cumbarjua MLA by Advocate Aires Rodrigues.

Justifying to the Lokayukka as to why no FIR was registered against Madkaikar after receiving a complaint from Rodrigues, Kashyap in her statement has stated that “Since the Institution of Lokayukta has already taken cognizance of the matter and commenced its inquiry, no useful purpose will be served by initiating a parallel Preliminary inquiry by the ACB.

Further since the complaint is against a serving Minister in the Government it would be more appropriate if the investigation is carried out by an independent body like the Lokayukta as directed by the Chief Minister.”

Rodrigues in his complaint had demanded the ACB register an FIR against Madkaikar and his wife Janita Madkaikar who is the Sarpanch of Old Goa and to speedily investigate the case. He alleged that Pandurang Madkaikar’s Nikitasha Realtors Pvt Ltd had on April 1, 2018 inaugurated a huge palatial bungalow at Old Goa estimated to have cost around a whopping 200 crores
