AITUC demands resumption of mining operations

All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC) on Friday demanded that mining operations in Goa be resumed immediately. A memorandum demanding the same was also submitted to Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant.

Stating that the government should take the responsibility as far as employment of mining workers is concerned, AITUC general secretary Christopher Fonseca demanded that the Goa Mineral Development Corporation (GMDC) be activated and be it corporation

or the lease renewal, the same workers should be employed again.

He also demanded that the mining workers be provided employment without any further delay and with no break in service.

Addressing the media Fonseca said the State is a sovereign entity. “State has a sovereign responsibility and that the State has to act as a sovereign guarantor to the mining workers,” he added.
