Mapusa: The medical examination report has confirmed that the victim was raped in a resort at Assonora by the accused hailing from Gujarat.
For the victim it was a misfortune that the tragic incident occurred a few months before as she was planning to tie the knot.
Following a complaint by the victim, the police arrested Laxmanbhai Shiyar (47) from Gujarat on August 23 and he has been currently remanded in four days police custody for investigations.
The accused had met the 23-year-old woman at the Mumbai airport and subsequently became friendly with her and by inducing her; he took her mobile phone number. While both were holidaying in the State separately, the accused started calling her repeatedly on her mobile number and forced her to come to a resort at Assonora under the pretext of showing amenities available at the resort.
The police investigations revealed that the victim went to Assonora from Candolim where she was staying and have obtained CCTV footages from the resorts.
