VASCO: The father of the minor girl in the Vasco rape case on Friday claimed that he was shocked to hear about the acquittal of all three school staffers, including the headmistress, class-teacher and the head clerk of the charges of destruction of evidence and child abuse. He, however, said he would take a call on his next course of legal action only after reading the judgment of the Children's court Panjim.

Speaking to Herald, the crestfallen father of the victim claimed that, “I was not present for the hearing nor had I received any information or summons for the same. The acquittals in the second case comes as a shocker to me. If I had any clue that the case was scheduled for hearing, I would have attended the proceedings personally and would have even hired a lawyer to fight the case. I am still not giving up and will wait for the order copy and only then I will take a decision on the next legal course of action after consulting my lawyers” he said.

Upset with the acquittals, Advocate Aires Rodrigues who's been keeping a close watch on the case blamed the police and state government for not appointing a special public prosecutor to bring the culprits to books. “The acquittals of the school staffers only displays the pathetic setup of the justice delivery system (Police) in state”.

This is very surprising that in such a vital case where a young Goan student was raped in the school toilet and the Goa government does not appoint a special public prosecutor to bring the culprits to book as it has been done by the government in the case of Tarun Tejpal and the other infamous Louis Berger case. This government has totally shied away from its responsibility of protecting the venerable girl child in the state,” Rodrigues said.
