PANJIM: Lawyer-activist Aires Rodrigues has announced to contest the upcoming Assembly polls from Panjim constituency. Rodrigues, known to have dragged some politicians and bureaucrats to the courts for alleged illegal and irregular activities, said he decided to jump in the poll fray following requests from his well wishers.

“Over the last few months many of my well-wishers have been urging me to consider contesting the forthcoming Goa Assembly elections. Having crossed the age 60 threshold, I was hesitating. It is no secret that my two goals in life had been to be an advocate and an MLA. Having achieved the first aspiration, after very meticulous consideration I have decided to throw my hat in the political ring,” he said.

Rodrigues said that he is in the process of setting up booth committees for all the 30 odd booths so as to work as a united force and tirelessly ensure betterment of the long neglected Panjim and Goa at large.

The activist assured to reach out personally to every household in the constituency seeking their blessings, support, advice and guidance in this mission.

The State is already witnessing political development as the Assembly polls approach near. While from the BJP, many sitting and former MLAs besides representatives from local bodies have expressed their desire to contest on the party ticket; quite a few from various political parties - majorly from Congress - are changing their loyalty to new political parties.
