PANJIM: The Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) has started cleaning of the lake situated at Lake View Colony at Campal in the capital city.

In the process, three four-wheel paddle aerators have been installed by the CCP in the lake. The peddle aerators have been installed to increase the quantity of dissolved oxygen in the lake. These aerators are used in aquaculture to improve dissolved oxygen levels and water quality.

According to sources, the lake cleaning work has been awarded to a Bengaluru-based company at Rs 5.78 lakh. The contractor has to maintain the ecological balance and water quality of the lake.

The lake water will be tested after the cleaning process is over to ascertain the improvement in dissolved oxygen, biochemical oxygen and chemical oxygen, the sources said.

Notably, in December 2022, a huge quantity of dead fish, mostly catfish, were found floating in the lake and it was suspected that they could have died due to water contamination.
