MARGAO: Citizens of Navelim are expressing frustration over alleged illegal land filling at Bellem-

Navelim and are demanding swift action from the authorities to investigate the matter.

According to reports, incidents of illegal land filling have been increasing recently, with concerned authorities seemingly failing to take action. At the Bellem-Navelim junction, roadside land has been filled with mud, leading to suspicions among citizens. While some speculate it’s for road widening, many fear it’s the result of illegal activities by unknown individuals.

This comes after recent objections raised by residents of Madel, Fatorda, regarding illegal dumping of mud in agricultural land near the wholesale fish market. Residents demanded an immediate halt to the works, failing which they have threatened to protest.

Cedrick Fernandes, a concerned citizen, expressed shock at the rising incidents of illegal land filling despite objections from the public. He emphasized the potential traffic and environmental issues posed by the situation, urging authorities to investigate promptly.

Another local Francisco Dias echoed these concerns, alleging that if left unchecked, the land could be used for commercial activities. He noted that the work is typically carried out at night, raising suspicions about its legitimacy.
