CM & AG to attend the high-level meet in New Delhi

PANJIM: BJP senior leader and Union Home Minister Amit Shah will chair a high-level meeting in New Delhi on contentious issue of iron ore mining resumption in Goa on Friday. Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant will be part of the meeting.

Chief Minister Office has informed that Sawant will attend a High Level Meeting on Goa Mining matter Chaired by Amit Shah along with Union Mines Minister Pralhad Joshi at New Delhi on Friday at 4 pm. Advocate General Devidas Pangam will also be present for the meeting.

The mining activities in Goa are under suspension since March 2018 after Supreme Court quashed and set aside second renewal granted to 88 mining leases.  The meeting was organized after Sawant, during NITI Ayog meeting last month sought Centre's immediate intervention to commence mining activities in Goa. Chief Minister had also demanded special mining package for the State.

Sawant had on Tuesday informed media that within a month there would be clarity on the mining issue.

Government intends to start handling of dumps from October onwards.
