MAPUSA:  The Anjuna Caisua gram sabha on Sunday witnessed a heated discussion on the issue of irregular water supply with the locals claiming that they are suffering as water is being diverted to hotels and resorts.

They villagers sought to know the status of sump work which is complete and still not used.

Admitting that there is water shortage, sarpanch Savio Almeida said, “In this regard, we had a meeting with the PWD Minister and other engineers. They informed us that there is sufficient water but the infrastructure is old and that the valve operation is improper.”

Unsatisfied with his reply, the villagers questioned him over multi dwellings which are permitted despite the village facing water problem.

The sarpanch said, “Based on technical clearances, the panchayat has to look into infrastructure requirements such as water supply and garbage before issuing licenses”. The villagers further demanded that panchayat stop issuing permissions for multi dwellings in the village.

Almeida said, “The Panchayat has written to PWD requesting to provide information on sufficient water supply. If PWD says there shortage then we will stop issuing new water connections”.

Satyavan Harmalkar, a local called for ensuring the safety of villagers who are into taxi business and demanded that cab aggregators or Goa Miles and others should not be allowed to operate or ply in Anjuna.
