Another spike takes active COVID-19 cases to 2858

PANJIM: COVID-19 cases in Goa have spiked again as the daily figure on Wednesday touched 527 cases in 24 hours. The upward trend that began last month had ranged between 200 and 300 in the last couple of days in what health officials said was a possible second wave of the virus. 

On Tuesday, the new cases were 387 which reached to 527 the following day raising concerns, as 138 persons recovered in the same 24 hour period. 

The first week of April has recorded 2,190 cases, which means on an average 314 new infections reported per day.

As per the Health Bulletin issued, of the 2,639 samples tested, 527 have tested positive for the infection, taking the count of active cases to 2,858.

Margao health centre has the maximum of 295 active cases, followed by 273 cases at Porvorim health centre, 244 in Panjim, 238 in Candolim and 217 in Ponda. 

Health centres like Cortalim (136), Vasco (146), Mapusa (145) and Siolim (102) have active cases above hundred. 

The State has had a total of 60,229 confirmed COVID-19 cases.
