Anti-malarial drug for  breast cancer

VASCO: Research by BITS Pilani Professor has proved the efficiency of anti-malarial drug against breast cancer. 

Prof  Angshuman  Sarkar,  Associate  Professor,  Department  of  Biological  Sciences  at  BITS Pilani,  K  K  Birla  Goa  Campus  and  his  team  have  investigated  a  novel  mode  of  action  of  an already  established  drug  used  for  the  treatment  of  malaria  named  “Quinacrine”  for  the treatment  of  human  breast  cancer. 

In a press release, BITS Goa has stated, earlier  the  team  had  proved  the  repurposing  of  this  drug  in  treating  human  lung  cancer  too. Now,  they  have  shown  that  specific  cytotoxicity  of  this  drug  for  the  human  breast  cancer cells.
