MAPUSA: The Calangute Citizens Forum on Friday urged the local body to stop the alleged illegal construction of road on the Baga Hill through private forest.

The Forum in a written letter to Sarpanch of Arpora Nagoa Village Panchayat raised the question with whose permission the road is constructed on the Baga Hill through private forest.

The Forum further stated that in Survey No 267, 270, 265 and 253 a 10-metre road is constructed as shown in Outline Development Plan 2025 and also parts of the area of Survey No 270 and 267 have been levelled and a retaining wall is also destroyed.

The Forum pointed out that the Survey No 267 and 270 has been identified as private forest land and no construction or development work can be permitted on this said land.

It also highlighted that earlier attempts were made to construct a road in same area in January 2019 where in large tracks of forested hill was burnt and destroyed using heavy machinery followed by which an offence was registered for illegally cutting trees by the Forest Department in February 2019.
