MARGAO: State Immunisation Medical Officer Dr Rajendra Borkar on Monday informed that as of June 21, nearly 7.50 lakh COVID vaccine doses have been delivered of which 6.50 lakh are first doses.

Speaking to the media persons at Navelim, he said the State is working hard to get all the people of Goa vaccinated by July-end.

He said, “Nearly 1 lakh doses are given as second dose. One lakh people have taken both the doses, whereas nearly 6.50 lakh people are yet to receive the doses as a preventive measure with regards to COVID infection".

Dr. Borkar informed that nearly 5.50 lakh people have been administered the first dose and the remaining 1 lakh have taken both doses.

"We are estimating the total population at 12 lakh. So we have another five to six lakh doses to be administered to the people. The target is to cover all these remaining people by July 31. At least the first dose should be given to all; the second dose will be given after 84 weeks. We are working hard to complete the target", he said.

He said the Health Department has enough vaccines, but now they are depending on the people to come forward to take the same.

"Hence, 200 satellites vaccination centres, besides 46 fixed centres have been instituted. All these 200 satellites vaccinations centres are moving from place to place on request. We are coordinating with the local bodies to get the people to the vaccination centres", Dr Borkar added.
