VASCO: Ashley Napolean Afonso lifted the C G Varkey (IRS) Heritage Silver Rolling Trophy by winning ‘Parkonnem Kitem Tem Sang’ (Konkani riddles) at Chicalim.
The tie-breaker system was applied as Ashley and Raisa Fernandes called riddles correctly and could not end the deadlock of the Parkonnem Kitem Tem Sang contest. During the tie-breaker, after the five Parkonnim were posed to each of them, both ended with one point each as they managed to answer correctly only one Parkonnem (riddles in English) posed on a projector screen.
The organisers, Chicalim Bio-Crusaders then resorted to the toss of coin to select the winner. Raisa called the toss but unfortunately for her, Ashley turned the winner.
Indian Navy Vice Admiral (retd) Sunil Damle was the chief guest and gave the trophy to Ashley Afonso. Also present were Adv Fr Michael Fernandes and Francis Varkey as special guests on the occasion.
