MAPUSA: Residents of Boutawaddo, Assagao gathered in large numbers near the Shri Bhagwati Bhumika Temple to raise their objections to a cell phone tower which they alleged was being erected on a school building roof.
Residents said that they would oppose the tower at any cost and demanded that it be shifted from the residential area.
Vyankatesh Shirodkar, a local resident said, “This tower is being erected on the roof of a building which is completely illegal. The work is being carried out only at nights and right under the nose of the local authorities. Two years ago, we had opposed another tower and it was later shifted from here.”
Villagers further pointed that this is a residential area and has a school and old age home in the vicinity.
“We don’t want this tower here since it will have a very bad impact on our health. We request that it be shifted away from a residential area,” villagers said.
