PORVORIM: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Friday warned that he would take strict action against individuals encroaching on government land throughout the State.

Addressing a zero-hour mention by Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardesai in the Legislative Assembly, Sawant expressed concern over the encroachment of land designated for the expansion of highways and roads. He cited instances where kiosks were erected on government-acquired land, vowing to crack down on such encroachments.

"We will take stern action against them. We will free government land from encroachers," Sawant affirmed.

Earlier, Sardesai highlighted the anxiety among the public and motorists due to extensive traffic jams from Porvorim to Guirim junction during peak hours. He expressed apprehension that the construction of the six-lane elevated road from Teen Building, Porvorim, to Guirim junction would exacerbate traffic congestion further.

Pernem MLA Pravin Arlekar urged the government to address traffic congestion issues by constructing a flyover or unaderpass near the accident-prone Dhargalim junction and Naibag-Porascodem. Arlekar also called for the installation of traffic signals at Dhargalim, to prevent accidents.
