Assembly monsoon session may elect new Dy Speaker

BJP shortlists Joshua, Jennifer and Ganesh for the post

PANJIM: The forthcoming monsoon session of the State Legislative Assembly, beginning from July 11 could see the election of a new deputy Speaker. 

Names of Mapusa MLA Joshua D’Souza, Taleigao MLA Jennifer Monserrate and Sanvordem MLA Ganesh Gaonkar are shortlisted by ruling BJP for the post of deputy speaker. 

BJP MLA Subhash Phal Desai, who was the deputy speaker when the session was last convened, is now being appointed as the Social Welfare Minister. 

Meanwhile, the Business Advisory Committee (BAC) will meet in the first week of July to finalise the business of the forthcoming monsoon session of the State Legislative Assembly. 

The month-long session  will discuss the Governor’s address on the first three days of the session, followed by general discussion on Budget 2022-23. 

The session will pass demands of the various departments, govt bills and private member resolutions among others.

Speaker Ramesh Tawadkar said the BAC will be meeting in the first week of July to chalk out the business of the session. 

The BAC is headed by the Speaker with Chief Minister, Leader of Opposition and representative from MGP, GFP, AAP and GRP are members.
