ASSOLNA: Assolna Panchayat on Saturday sought an extension in the time period for utilising the XIV Finance Commission grants.
In a letter addressed to the Salcete Block Development Officer (BDO), Sarpanch Xavier Almeida has sought a grace period to use the XIV Finance Commission grants by stating that ‘due to circumstances beyond our control, we could not utilise the grants within the stipulated time to complete our projects which are held up/delayed due to the following reasons: our project proposal files were returned back by the Directorate of Panchayats to obtain NOC and due to Code of Conduct in connection with Zilla Panchayat elections and bye-election of Assolna Ward No 7 being held on March 20.’
Xavier said, “The Assolna Village Panchayat will convene its gram sabha on March 7.”
“A copy of this letter has also been sent to the Velim MLA and Water Resources Minister Filipe Neri Rodrigues, Panchayat Minister Mauvin Godinho and the Director of Panchayats,” he said.
