PANJIM: On Friday Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar made a brief visit to his ancestral house in Parra, where he sought the blessings of Lord Ganesh, but there was another reason for the visit. The 20-minute visit to his ancestral house in Parra was also to take a final call on his political career after seeking the blessings of the elephant-headed god.

During the visit, the Chief Minister spoke to family members of his decision to resign. “He told us he would resign soon and inform the party leaders accordingly,” a family source told Herald.

Conveying his message to the family, he appeared teary-eyed. “It was an emotional decision for him and he told us he cannot allow the administration to suffer because of his health,” the source said, and added that while they asked who would be his successor, he did not reveal anything.

The source also said that Parrikar had informed the BJP State unit to deliberate and discuss the current changes and he would meet them after that at Dukle Hospital.

“Accordingly a meeting was first held of the BJP core committee at a former MLA’s house near Mapusa and thereafter the core-committee members met him at the Candolim hospital,” the source revealed.

The source further revealed that at the brief meeting in the hospital a few things were discussed. “Leadership change was discussed but no decision taken. A few names would be discussed with the Central leaders upon which a decision would be reached,” he said.
