PANJIM: Till Wednesday evening, Goa had recorded an approximate voting percentage of 76.06 in the two Parliamentary constituencies for which polling was held on Tuesday.

Speaking to mediapersons on Wednesday, Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Ramesh Verma said that Goa’s polling percentage touched the highest at 76.06 per cent and would increase further after including ballot papers and home voting. The North Goa Parliamentary constituency recorded 77.69 per cent polling and 74.47 per cent voting was registered in the South Goa Parliamentary constituency.

On Tuesday, the State Election Office had registered an estimated 75.20 per cent voter turnout. 

In the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, the voting percentage was 75 per cent. 

Of the 11,79,344 voters, a total of 8,96,958 including 4,31,087 males and 4,65,862 females and nine transgenders had exercised their franchise for the two Lok Sabha seats. Postal ballot and home voting figures are yet to be included in this data. 

19 complaints received on polling day

The State Election Office received 19 complaints including a complaint against a candidate on Tuesday.

The Congress and Bhaujan Samaj Party had filed complaints against South Goa BJP candidate for campaigning inside a polling booth on polling day.

“We received 19 complaints on the polling day and we have asked for a factual report from the field in every case,” informed Verma, assuring of proper action in time. 

Since the Model Code of Conduct came into force, 190 public complaints were received by CEO Goa. Of the 38 Model Code of Conduct violation complaints, six have been disposed and two are in process, he added.  

During the mock poll, 53 Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) malfunctioned, while 49 EVMs malfunctioned during actual polling time. 

At Rs 17.82 crore, enforcement agencies seizures 55% higher than 2019 polls

The enforcement agencies seized cash, gold, liquor, drugs, worth Rs 17.82 crore in the State since the Model Code of Conduct came into force on March 16. The seizure was 40 per cent higher than the 2022 Goa Assembly elections and 55 per cent more than the seizure during the 2019 Lok Sabha polls, informed Verma. 

LS polls most peaceful in country: DGP

Director General of Police (DGP) Jaspal Singh,IPS, on Wednesday said that the Lok Sabha elections in Goa were the most peaceful in the country and there was no PCR call of any incident from anywhere.

“Goa Police thanks and congratulates all the Goans for ensuring the most peaceful elections in the country. True to the reputation of peaceful and tranquil society, the polling was absolutely peaceful. There was no PCR call of any incident from anywhere. Dev bhare karoon,” Singh posted on X (formerly Twitter).
