Vasco: The aviation security fee at Dabolim Airport has been revised from April 1, 2021 and accordingly domestic passengers will be charged Rs 200 per head and Overseas passenger 12 US dollars per head on their airlines ticket.

Speaking to the Herald, Dabolim airport director Gagan Malik said, "the aviation security fee is approved by the Govt of India. As per the latest guidelines from April 1, 2021 the aviation security fee has been fixed at Rs 200 per domestic passenger and for international passengers this fee is  US $12. From April 1 this revision of aviation security fee has been applicable" Malik added.

He said this fee is basically charged for meeting the expenditure on security measures such as aviation security and other checks at the airport. This fee is collected by the airlines in their ticket and then is transferred.

When asked if there is any exception to these fees, the director said, "this fee is applicable to everyone who buys a ticket and everyone has to pay it. The hike in the fee is just Rs 40 which won't affect the passengers much".

Malik said the revision of this fee is actually beneficial for passengers as they should feel safe and secure while travelling. The fee revision is a routine practice which has been happening since the last many years.

When asked about charter flight parking fee reduction at the airport as announced in the budget, the Director said he has not received any official correspondence in this regards and therefore he cannot comment on the matter.

When asked whether there will be any direct flights from UK to Goa in April, Malik said, "as far as UK slots are concerned they have been approved from our side and it is for Air India to operate. Considering the CoVID cases scenario it is the government's decision to decide on the flights".
