PANJIM: The Goa unit of the BJP has charged the Congress with trying to politicise the special campaign ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ under Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, organised to mark the 75th anniversary of India’s Independence.

Addressing media persons on Friday, BJP State spokesperson Adv Yatish Naik requested Congress leaders not to politicise the issue but to participate in the campaign, the call was given by the Prime Minister, to showcase to the world that we are ‘one’ in celebrating the milestone of India’s Independence.

“As proud Indians, we should participate in the special campaign ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’. The call given by the Prime Minister is not restricted to any particular party but it’s a call given to every Indian, who is proud of his nation. This is a mark of our patriotic sentiments,” Naik said.

The BJP leader pointed out how Congress has been trying to politicise every issue concerning nationalism. He said that the party, at the Centre, along with other Opposition parties had boycotted the foundation stone laying ceremony of the new Parliament building, the Constitution Day celebration and the Tiranga bike rally.

The BJP’s response is to Goa Congress President Amit Patkar's statement “better late than never… Finally, BJP has adopted Tiranga over ‘Bhagva’. It is a great feeling to see that BJP has finally realised the importance of Tiranga over Bhagva.”

The ruling party has condemned the statement. The campaign is being organised from August 13 to 15.
