Refers to BJP’s front page newspaper ad published 25 years ago prior to Parrikar’s first victory in Panjim, where the creek was their major poll plank then

PANJIM: Congress has alleged that Panjim has deteriorated under the BJP leadership of late Manohar Parrikar despite the former CM having representing the constituency for over two decades.

Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) general secretary Yatish Naik said that since 1994, BJP has been promising the same thing. Flashing a photocopy of the front page of a English local newspaper of November 16, 1994, he said “Manohar Parrikar won in 1994 and his major plank then was St Inez creek. The BJP even published a page 1 advertisement in 94. They had published a photograph then about how St Inez Creek had chocked in ward number 13. With that as their agenda, they went to the people.”

He further flashed the photographs of the creek clicked on Tuesday, May 14, 2019 and said “These photographs of May 14, 2019 show that the Creek has further clogged. Is this BJP’s efficiency and commitment after being in the seat for 25 years?”

Stating that the BJP has no commitment to improve the lives of the people of Panjim, Yatish further said that the tenure is a failure of the BJP and it is not progress rather regress of the capital.

“The St Inez Creek is therefore a symbol of Panjim’s development and shows the failure of the BJP. Panjim still reels under the problems of cleanliness and garbage and they are still the issues plaguing the city and tall claims of BJP have been exposed”, he added.

Yatish posed five questions to the BJP: “Why has the BJP failed to rejuvenate the Creek even after being either the chief minister of leader of opposition? Why has the BJP failed to give good roads to Panjim? Why BJP has not ensured continuous good water supply? Why has BJP not solved parking issue? and why BJP has failed to bring a good garbage treatment facility in Panjim?”

Stating that these five basic questions have to be addressed if the BJP wants to improve Panjim, he said that people have made up their mind that they want progress and they are convinced that Panjim has regressed under BJP and only Congress can provide progress.
