Blames Chief Minister for failing to provide security to the girl

PANJIM: Congress has condemned and accused the BJP of trying to take advantage out of the missing victim in the alleged rape of minor by Atanasio Babush Monserrate.

Stating that the girl has gone missing for the fourth time in as many months, Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) president Girish Chodankar said, “It shows the irresponsible manner of the government and the failure of the administration.”

Hitting out at the BJP for approaching the Chief Electoral Officer against Babush Monserrate and the party for not declaring the criminal cases against him, Girish said “While there was still time for Babush to declare the cases through a notice, why didn’t the BJP approach the government to expedite the cases against him according to the Supreme Court directions which state that a case should be expedited within 6 months.”

He further stated that the girl went missing on April 28 and suddenly eight days before the voting for the by-polls the media is made abuzz of the missing victim. “BJP wants to portray that he (Babush) has done it. In this the disadvantage is to Babush and the advantage is for those who are desperate to win the elections. The message is loud and clear that BJP can go to any extent due to their desperation”, he added.

Girish further said that the Chief Minister as the Home Minister is also responsible to provide protection to all. He said “It is the responsibility of the government and not the Congress.”
