PANJIM: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday demanded a thorough inquiry into the missing case of the survivor in the alleged rape involving Panjim by-poll candidate Atanasio Babush Monserrate.

Addressing a press conference, BJP State President Vinay Tendulkar said the timing of the missing of the girl raises eyebrows.

“Monserrate was the accused in the minor rape case and it cannot be coincidental that the victim girl goes missing at the time when the case is up for hearings in the court,” said Tendulkar.

“We are told the girl had no money when she left the convent hostel and also that she had no money to pay the conductor. But after she left the bus, there has been no trace of this girl,” he added.

Tendulkar demanded that the State government trace the girl, and provide her with the required assistance, as she is an important witness in the case related to Monserrate.

The decision on framing charges against Monserrate will be delivered on June 3 by the court.

“Her disappearance during such crucial time is a cause of concern,” Tendulkar said.

It March 2016, a victim girl, minor in age at that time, had lodged a complaint with Panjim police  against Atanasio alias Babush Monserrate, resident of Taleigao, Kamala Remal, mother of the victim girl resident of Caranzalem and Rosaria alias Rosy Ferros resident of Caranzalem for hatching criminal conspiracy against her.

Both women, mother and the neighbour of the victim girl whom she considered as "Aunty", allegedly delivered the victim minor girl to the accused Monserrate for sexual exploitation for consideration of Rs.50,00,000. .

Further the complaint stated that the accused wrongfully confined the victim girl, administered her stupefying substances and had sexual intercourse with her without her consent.
