BJP shuts doors, says no place for more MLAs
PANJIM: After giving a major setback to the Congress by inducting its 10 MLAs into BJP, the ruling party has closed the doors for further entry of MLAs from either parties or Independents. BJP Goa President Vinay Tendulkar confirmed that they are not looking at inducting more MLAs; however, several from non-political outfits are interested to join the party.
“There is no place left for any more MLAs whether Congress or Goa Forward Party to be inducted in the party,” he said on the sidelines of a press conference to announce programmes to mark 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.
The party has begun strengthening its hold in
Porvorim by inducting sitting Independent MLA Rohan Khaunte’s erstwhile supporter and Socorro sarpanch Sandeep Vazarkar and six panchas. Tendulkar said several non-political members are eager to join the BJP.
The development comes three months after BJP-led government dropped GFP members and Khaunte from the Cabinet.
Commenting on the challenges tourism industry would undergo in the coming season, the party president accompanied by Damodar Naik and Sadanand Tanavade said they are optimistic that season would do well.
With the country commemorating 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi on Wednesday, October 2; the party has chalked out elaborate plans such as cleanliness drives, padyatra, etc, to observe the birth anniversary till January 30, 2020. The drive “Gandhi Sankalp Yatra” would cover all the constituencies including villages by the party MPs, MLAs, office bearers and karyakartas.
