PANJIM: Opposition leaders from the INDIA bloc have accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government of engaging in organised corruption, especially during the National Games held in October-November last year.

During a joint press conference, Shiv Sena (UBT) President Jitesh Kamat stated,

“They systematically drained the state exchequer, from Kala Academy to various projects.”

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Rajesh Kalangutkar alleged corruption within Goa’s Sports Department. “Ministers set daily corruption targets. The National Games showcased Goa’s corruption. Huge sums were spent, including Rs 68 lakh on the mascot launch and Rs three crore on ‘MOGA’,” he revealed.

“During advertising, the BJP did publicity for their leaders. The National Games was a big scam. But they failed to pay volunteers. They are still not paid,” he said.

Kalangutkar criticised the government for failing Goan athletes by not investing in new infrastructure. “There is no new infrastructure. Temporary tents which were installed are taken back by contractors. They didn’t even give contracts to locals fearing their corruption will get exposed. Goa has not benefited,” he said.
